In the latest news from Forbes, the world has a record number of billionaires in 2024, with a total of 2,781, up by 141 from last year.

In an exciting turn, pop sensation Taylor Swift has also joined the billionaires’ club, with Forbes estimating her fortune at $1.1 billion. Swift’s financial success is attributed to her music, particularly the re-recording of her album “1989” and her ‘Eras’ tour, along with her significant influence in entertainment and pop culture.

At the pinnacle of wealth, Bernard Arnault from France and his family lead with a staggering fortune of $357.46 billion. They’re known for their control over the LVMH group, which includes luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Sephora.

Following closely is Elon Musk from the United States, with $299.16 billion. Musk is a household name thanks to his ventures such as Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X. Jeff Bezos, the mind behind Amazon, holds the third spot with $297.63 billion, a testament to how his small garage startup transformed into a global powerhouse.

Interestingly, no New Zealanders made it into the top 10. However, Graeme Hart, New Zealand’s wealthiest, ranks at 1152 with a net worth of US$10.6 billion, primarily from his packaging business. Peter Jackson, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” series, also features on the list.
