Tahiti hosts Olympic Surfing

The French Polynesian island of Tahiti is hosting the Olympic surfing competition from July 27 to 30, 2024.

This event is unique because athletes are staying on a floating hotel, the luxury liner “Aranui 5.” The liner, which usually carries passengers and freight, has been chosen as the Olympic Village due to the lack of nearby facilities.

The competition takes place at the famous Teahupo’o surfing site. The Aranui 5 offers the 28 international competitors and their teams a special experience, with French and Polynesian cuisine and local dances every night.

Among the competitors, local surfers are the favorites. In the women’s event, Vahine Fierro, who won the Tahiti leg of the World Surfing League competition in May, is a strong contender. Kauli Vast, competing in the men’s event, also has a deep connection to the Teahupo’o waves.

This floating Olympic Village adds a unique touch to the Paris 2024 Olympics, while providing a memorable experience for the athletes.
