Have you heard the exciting news about the Super Mario Bros. Movie? It’s only gone and smashed records, becoming the highest-grossing video game movie of all time! That’s right, it’s cleared a whopping $500 million worldwide at the box office, overtaking Warcraft ($439 million) to set this awesome record.

But that’s not all, it’s also the biggest movie of 2023 in the US and around the globe! It’s even beaten Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ($474 million) to take the crown.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hit the big screens on April 5th and boy did it have a strong opening weekend! It broke records not only for the best start for a video game movie, but also for the best opening weekend for any animated film ever! Disney’s Frozen II used to hold that title, but not anymore.

Variety reported that The Super Mario Bros. Movie had a production budget of $100 million, which is pretty “economical” for an animated film of this magnitude.

But wait, there’s more! The film even ends with a sneaky teaser for a potential sequel! And with Nintendo already talking openly about making more movies, it seems like this is just the beginning of the Super Mario Bros. Movie franchise.
