Melania Trump statue stolen

A bronze statue of Melania Trump, the former First Lady of the United States, has been stolen from her hometown of Sevnica. Police say the statue was cut off at the ankles and taken sometime before Tuesday, when they were first informed.

The life-size sculpture was placed in central Slovenia in 2020. It replaced an earlier wooden version that had been burned by unknown vandals. Both statues were meant to honour Melania Trump, who was born in Sevnica in 1970 as Melanija Knavs.

Police are investigating and searching for those responsible. They have not said if there are any suspects yet.

The original statue had been carved from a tree and showed Melania in a light blue dress, similar to the one she wore at her husband’s 2017 presidential inauguration. The bronze version, however, did not closely resemble her.
