Highway 2 between Gisborne and Napier is finally reopening after being closed for almost three months due to Cyclone Gabrielle.

The police are reminding drivers to be cautious and adjust their driving to the current conditions because parts of the road are still damaged.

The road will only be open during daylight hours, according to Waka Kotahi. There are speed limits in place, and in some areas, traffic is limited to single lanes with traffic lights and signs.

Drivers should expect queues and longer travel times, warned the police. Waka Kotahi will temporarily close the road at night as they continue to work on restoring it.
