Danny Jansen plays for Two Teams in one Game

Danny Jansen made Major League Baseball history by playing for both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox in the same game.

On June 26, Jansen was batting for the Blue Jays when heavy rain caused the game to be postponed. When the game resumed on September 4, Jansen was on the Red Sox team, becoming the first player ever to play for two teams in the same game.

Jansen, 29, was traded to the Red Sox on July 27, a month after the original game was stopped. The Blue Jays sold him in exchange for three minor-league players. When the game continued, Jansen switched from batting for the Blue Jays to catching for the Red Sox, an unprecedented moment in MLB history.

The game resumed 65 days after it was paused, and the Blue Jays sent in Daulton Varsho to finish Jansen’s batting. Later, Jansen came up to bat for the Red Sox, marking another historic first—batting for both teams in the same inning.

Jansen, who wore jerseys from both teams during the game, plans to donate one of them to the Baseball Hall of Fame in New York, commemorating this unique achievement.
