Black Ferns in Semi-Finals of World Cup

The Black Ferns have stormed into the semi-finals of the Women’s Rugby World Cup by defeating South Africa 46–17. After a tough first half, the defending champions came back strong to score eight tries and win the match.

At halftime, the game was tied 10–10. South Africa had most of the ball and surprised the Ferns with clever moves and powerful teamwork. But in the second half, everything changed.

Teenage wing Braxton Sorensen-McGee became a hero by scoring two exciting tries. Fullback Renee Holmes and number eight Kaipo Olsen-Baker also added two tries each. With lightning-fast passes and sharp running, the Black Ferns raced past their opponents. Tries from centre Theresa Setefano and wing Katelyn Vahaakolo helped seal the victory.

“We knew South Africa would be tough, but we came out fighting and gave it everything,” said Olsen-Baker.

South Africa showed great heart. It was their first time in a World Cup quarter-final, and they even scored three tries of their own through Babalwa Latsha, Aphiwe Ngwevu, and Lerato Makua.

Their coach, Swys de Bruin, said he was proud of his team. “They’ve inspired millions of girls back home,” he said.

In just the first seven minutes of the second half, the Black Ferns scored three tries and took control of the game. The South African defense just couldn’t keep up with New Zealand’s speed and skill.

Now, the Black Ferns are off to face Canada in the semi-finals. Canada also had a big win, beating Australia 46–5. Two more exciting quarter-finals were set to take place overnight: France vs. Ireland and England vs. Scotland.
