The All Blacks earned a hard-fought 24–17 victory over world champions South Africa in a thrilling rugby match at Eden Park in Auckland.
The win marked their 51st straight game without a loss at the famous stadium. This match came after New Zealand’s recent loss to Argentina, making the victory even more important.
In the first half, Emoni Narawa and Will Jordan scored tries for New Zealand, both successfully converted to give the team a strong 14–0 lead. South Africa responded with a penalty kick from Handre Pollard, ending the half 14–3.
After halftime, Damian McKenzie kicked another penalty for the All Blacks. Although South Africa’s Malcolm Marx scored a try, New Zealand quickly answered with a try from Quinn Tupaea. A late try by Cobus Reinach gave the Springboks hope, but the All Blacks held on to win.
Ardie Savea, who played his 100th match for New Zealand, called it a “gutsy performance” and said he was proud of the team’s effort.
With this victory, New Zealand now leads the Rugby Championship with 10 points. Australia is close behind with nine, while South Africa and Argentina have five points each.
