In October, there was a big conflict between Israel and Gaza. Many people were affected, and the NZDF is helping to maintain peace in the region. In Sudan, a war has created a large crisis, and many people need help.
Defence Minister Judith Collins said that these missions show New Zealand’s commitment to making the world a safer place. Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters added that keeping peace in other parts of the world also helps keep New Zealand safe.
The NZDF will also continue to help keep the seas safe. They will work with the Combined Maritime Forces in Bahrain until June 2026. This team fights against smuggling, piracy, and terrorism to keep trading lanes safe. Two New Zealand ships, HMNZS Te Kaha and HMNZS Te Mana, will be part of this mission for two months. A special team will also help with mine countermeasures between May 2025 and June 2026.
These missions give New Zealand soldiers a chance to practice and improve their skills while helping others. By working together with other countries, New Zealand is helping to make the world a better place.
