Max the cat has been awarded an honorary degree of “doctor of litter-ature” by Vermont State University’s Castleton campus.
This unique honor was given to Max, a beloved tabby cat, just before the students’ graduation on Saturday.
Max is not known for typical cat activities like catching mice or napping. Instead, he is celebrated for his friendliness and affection towards the students. For the past four years, Max has been a cherished member of the campus community. He lives with his human family in a house near the main entrance to the university, which gives him easy access to campus.
Max’s owner, Ashley Dow, explained that he enjoys spending time with the college students, who love to pick him up, take selfies, and even take him along on campus tours. Max has a knack for joining prospective student tours, much to everyone’s delight.
The university acknowledged Max’s impact on the campus community in a Facebook post, highlighting his affectionate nature and the joy he brings to students and visitors alike. Max’s honorary degree celebrates his unique contribution to campus life, making him an unofficial mascot and a friend to all.
