Afghanistan devastated by two large earthquakes

A second significant earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 has struck Afghanistan, hitting a region near the city of Herat.

This follows a previous earthquake in the same area, just days before, which also measured 6.3 on the Richter scale and resulted in over 1,000 casualties.

Many people in the affected areas have been sleeping in the open due to the destruction of their homes. Relief efforts have been hampered by a lack of blankets, food, and other essential supplies.

Afghanistan is vulnerable to earthquakes, particularly in the Hindu Kush mountain range, as it is located near the convergence of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
