Kerr records historic jump

New Zealand high jumper Hamish Kerr made a remarkable comeback by recording his second-highest jump ever after a disappointing world championship campaign. He jumped 2.33m, finishing second to Olympic champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar at the Zurich Diamond League meeting.

Kerr’s national record is 2.34m, set indoors in Slovakia earlier this year, but this jump was his best ever outdoors, beating his previous best of 2.31m.

After a week of contemplation and even a holiday with his girlfriend in Croatia, Kerr decided to stay in Europe and prove himself. He expressed his love for the sport and his desire to bounce back after the disappointing world championships.

Kerr will compete in another event in Europe before heading to the USA for the Diamond League Finals.
