If the Silver Ferns lose to Jamaica in their last group match, they still have a chance to make it to the semi-finals, but they will have to wait for final confirmation. South Africa will also need to beat Uganda later in the day, and even then, the outcome will be determined by goal percentage, with the Silver Ferns currently holding a higher differential.
The Silver Ferns faced a challenging schedule with two matches in a short span of 17 hours, starting with the game against the Proteas followed by a quick turnaround to face Jamaica at 9pm (NZT).
Both teams had to cope without their leading shooters, as Grace Nweke and Lenize Potgieter were ruled out of the tournament due to knee injuries. Maia Wilson stepped up as the starting goal shooter for the Silver Ferns, while Karin Burger took on the wing defense position, playing in her country of birth.
