2023 Emmy’s postponed

The Emmy Awards, originally scheduled for September, have been postponed due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes. The Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild are currently on strike, the largest walkout in 60 years, which means members of these unions cannot work or participate in any publicity, including awards shows like the Emmys. The new date for the 2023 ceremony has not been confirmed yet, as the organizers want to wait until an agreement is reached with TV companies.

The Emmy Awards are the most prestigious US television prize, and this year’s nominees include shows like Succession, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and Ted Lasso. The strikes are centered around issues such as the use of Artificial Intelligence in productions and fair profit-sharing in the age of streaming.

This is the first time in over 20 years that the Emmys have been postponed; the last time was in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Voting for the awards is still set to go ahead in the coming weeks, but it remains uncertain whether the actual awards ceremony will take place as planned. The Creative Arts Emmys, which celebrate artistic and technical achievements in television, are also likely to be postponed from their original early September date.
