A 10-year-old girl from Auckland, New Zealand, has raised $20,000 for Starship Children’s Hospital by auctioning a uniquely shaped potato chip on Trade Me.

Bianca McPherson found the chip with a heart-shaped hole in it while eating a bag of Bluebird chips. She decided to auction it off to raise money for Starship, a hospital that has helped her sister and cousin in the past.

The auction started at $1 and quickly climbed to $7,000. However, some of the bids were retracted, and the price fell back to $2,000.

At that point, Bluebird stepped in and offered to match the amount of the winning bid. The auction ended with a winning bid of $5,000, and Bluebird donated an additional $5,000.

In total, the auction raised $20,000 for Starship. The money will be used to fund research, equipment, and the national air ambulance that brings child patients to Starship Hospital.

Bianca is thrilled with the outcome of the auction. She said she hopes “every dollar will help” the hospital.

Starship Foundation chief executive Jo Simon said the donation was “a huge boost” for the hospital. She thanked Bianca and her supporters for their generosity.

This is a heartwarming story of a young girl who used her creativity and generosity to help others.
