Happy Earth Day, everyone! Today, the world is celebrating the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day. This special day was founded in 1970 by a senator from Wisconsin in the US. He organised a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues, and it became the largest protest in human history, with more than 20 million people taking part!
Now, Earth Day events are held all around the world, bringing together over a billion people in more than 193 countries. These events help to raise awareness, care for the environment, and take action on climate change.
This year, the theme for Earth Day is ‘Invest in Our Planet,’ and the event’s website states that “this is the moment to change it all.” Despite all the worries about climate change and its impact on the planet, Earth Day aims to inspire us to take action to protect our planet.
Earth Day falls on April 22 every year (and it falls on a Saturday this year!). People all over the world attend environmental conservation and awareness events on this day. In 1990, Earth Day’s organizers decided to take the movement global, and 200 million people in 141 countries participated. The impact of that day was enormous: it kicked off massive initiatives to recycle and paved the way for the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
