New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins is currently in Australia meeting with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese ahead of Anzac Day. The meeting was aimed at celebrating and advancing the ties between the two countries.
The Prime Minister’s visit is timed to coincide with the Anzac Day weekend and aimed to acknowledge Australia’s work on issues regarding citizenship and reaffirm the strong Anzac ties between the two countries.
During his visit, Prime Minister Hipkins discussed the common issues Australia and New Zealand face together, including major regional geostrategic and economic challenges and their shared commitment to regional security.
This was Prime Minister Hipkins’ first trade mission since becoming Prime Minister, and the visit marked the 40th anniversary of Closer Economic Relations (CER) between the two countries. It was a great opportunity to support New Zealand businesses with growth ambitions in Australia, particularly those from cyclone-affected areas, and to celebrate and strengthen the ties between Australia and New Zealand.
