The Pokémon World Championships 2024 are happening in Honolulu, Hawaii, from August 16 to August 18.

This is the biggest Pokémon tournament in the world, attracting top players who compete to be crowned world champion. Thousands of fans and players have traveled to Hawaii for this exciting event, which takes place at the Hawaii Convention Center.

The competition features four categories: Trading Card Game, Video Game, Pokémon GO!, and Pokémon Unite. TCG is played with Pokémon cards, VG with the Scarlet and Violet games on Nintendo Switch, and Pokémon GO! on mobile phones, while Pokémon Unite is played on both mobile and Switch consoles. Players compete in different age groups: Junior (under 12), Senior (12-16), and Masters (17 and up).

To participate in the World Championships, players must earn enough Championship Points from local competitions held throughout the year. The number of points needed varies by region and age group. Winners use a mix of strategy and skill to outplay their opponents.

The event is not just for competitors. Fans who bought tickets can watch the matches from big viewing galleries and enjoy themed activities and exhibitions. For those who couldn’t attend in person, the tournament is streamed online for viewers worldwide.

This year marks the fourth time the Championships have been held in Hawaii. The event kicked off with a special welcome ceremony on August 15, where a Hawaiian blessing was given by Kahu Kordell Kekoa. The previous Championships were held in Tokyo in 2023 and London in 2022. Players from all over the world, including some from the UK, have worked hard to qualify and are ready to give their best in this prestigious competition.
