The Silver Ferns finished in fourth place at the Netball World Cup in South Africa after losing 52-45 to Jamaica. This marks New Zealand’s worst-ever finish at the pinnacle event.
Throughout the match, Jamaica took an early three-goal lead after the first quarter, and despite the Silver Ferns’ efforts to combat their tough defensive pressure with positional changes in the shooting end, they still trailed 24-21 at halftime.
In the third quarter, New Zealand faced challenges with offensive contacts, which gave momentum to Jamaica. They struggled to contain Jamaica’s shooter, Jhaniele Fowler, and entered the final quarter trailing by six points.
Both teams had impressive shooting accuracy, with New Zealand shooting at 88 percent and Jamaica at 95 percent for the game. Despite their efforts, the Silver Ferns were unable to secure a victory in the bronze medal match against Jamaica.
The tournament was won by Australia who beat England in the gold medal match.
