The Queensland Maroons emerged victorious in a thrilling State of Origin opener against the New South Wales Blues, winning 26-18 at Adelaide Oval.

The Maroons staged a remarkable comeback despite being down to 12 players and trailing 18-16 with just seven minutes remaining. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Cameron Munster scored late tries to secure the win and take a 1-0 series lead.

Reuben Cotter, playing in only his second State of Origin match, was named the player of the match for his outstanding 48 tackles.

The Maroons led 10-6 at halftime but faced challenges, including injuries to Tom Gilbert and Selwyn Cobbo.

The next match will be held at Brisbane’s Lang Park on June 21, with the Maroons in a strong position to retain the series trophy.
