In a recent auction, Anthony Daniels, the actor famous for playing C-3PO in the Star Wars series, sold the iconic robot’s head for an amazing US$843,750, which is about NZ$1.36 million!

For over 40 years, Daniels has brought the character of C-3PO to life on screen, and this time, he decided to auction off some special items from his collection.

The auction was hosted by Propstore Auctions, and the C-3PO head, made of fibreglass and used in the 1983 film “Return of the Jedi,” was the highlight of the event.

The head, which Daniels wore in the movie, includes a faceplate, backplate, and a neck-ring. It’s famous for a line where C-3PO says, “It’s against my programming to impersonate a deity.” While it’s not yet known who bought this piece of movie history, it certainly fetched a price within its expected range of US$500,000 to US$1 million.

The auction also featured other memorable items, such as Daniels’s personal script from “Star Wars: A New Hope,” filled with his own notes, which sold for US$62,500. A pair of metallic hands that Daniels wore while playing C-3PO, presented on a custom wooden stand, found a new owner for US$37,500.

Daniels shared that he had mixed feelings about parting with these items, some of which he had kept for nearly 50 years. He initially thought of leaving the memorabilia for his wife, Christine Savage, to sell after he passed away. However, upon discussing it with her, she suggested he should sell them now instead. In the end, Daniels decided to keep just two items for himself: a statue from Lucasfilm, the makers of Star Wars, thanking him for 40 years of dedication, and a small C-3PO statue made out of Lego bricks.
