The Snail Racing World Championships, held in Congham, England, is set to make its return this weekend and has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest-running humane snail-racing world championships.

The event, which was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was established by Tom Elwes in the 1960s after he attended a snail racing event in France.

During the race, snails compete to cover a distance of 13 inches (33 cm).

The current world record of 22 seconds, set by a snail named Archie in 1995, adds an exciting element to the event. The ultimate prize for the winner is a tankard of lettuce, making it a unique and entertaining competition for both participants and spectators alike.
