The world’s most expensive sheep has been sold in Scotland.

The sheep is named Double Diamond and was sold this week for $720,000 NZD.

The lamb was sold by Charlie Boden and family from their Sportsmans flock in Cheshire.

The sheep was bought by Jeff Aiken, one of three breeders who joined forces to pay the highest price ever commanded by a sheep.

He said he had been eyeing up Double Diamond for several weeks, saying the sheep was “heavily muscled, and genetically perfect.”

The sheep is a special breed called a Texel.

Texels are a highly sought-after breed that originated on the small island of Texel, off the coast of the Netherlands. They regularly sell for huge amounts of money.
