The world’s largest Lotto win has occurred in the United states.

Mavis Wanczyk, a health centre worker from Massachusetts, was the sole winner of the US Powerball lottery, in which she won $1.04billion NZD.

When Mavis, 53, was asked yesterday if she was going back to the job where she has worked for 32 years, she said: “I called them and told them I will not be coming back.”

The winning numbers for Wednesday night’s jackpot: 6, 7, 16, 23, 26. The Powerball was 4. Winners must have all five numbers as well as the Powerball.

The jackpot had been growing without a winner since June 10, and it’s the second-largest in U.S. history. The largest was $1.6 billion in 2016, which was shared by three winning tickets. Wednesday’s contest was reported to be the largest grand prize won by a single lottery ticket in U.S. history.

The odds of winning are only about 1 in 292 million. By comparison, the odds of being killed by lightning in any given year, according to National Geographic, are 1 in 700,000.
