Wairarapa Intermediate School has pioneered an attempt to grab back the Guinness World Record for the biggest haka in history.
Around 7000 school children from the region took part in the haka at Masterton’s Memorial Park.
They had to last five minutes to beat the world record – so they did the same haka approximately nine times in a row.
The current holders of the record for largest haka ever are French rugby club CA Brive Correze Limousin, who performed the war dance in September 2014 with 4028 participants, as part of a marketing stunt for its sponsor Mazda.
Before the French, the record belonged to New Zealand from a 3264 person strong haka back in 2008.
They will now send all the information to Guinness World Records, and cross their fingers for the official confirmation that the record is theirs.
