A painting by French artist Paul Gauguin has sold for $405 million making it the most expensive piece of artwork ever sold.
The painting, Nafea Faa Ipoipo, or When Will You Marry?, was painted in 1892 and is of two Tahitian girls.
Before its sale, the painting was owned by Swiss art collector Rudolf Staechelin and reports suggest it was sold to a museum in Qatar but the identity of the buyer will not be released.
Mr Staechelin used to loan the pricey painting to a Swiss museum for them to display but decided to sell the painting after he had a disagreement with the museum.
Before this sale, the most expensive painting sold was by Paul Cezanne and went for $349 million. This painting was bought by a buyer from Qatar.
