China has welcomed the world to the 2022 Winter Olympics with a breathtaking opening ceremony.

Chinese President Xi Jinping declared the Games open during a ceremony held in the same stadium as the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Athletes Zhao Jiawen and Dinigeer Yilamujiang, a member of the country’s Uyghur Muslim minority, delivered the final Olympic flame.

New Zealand was led into the games by skiers Finn Bilous and Alice Robinson. The New Zealand team consists of 15 athletes (nine men and six women) competing in five sports

The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games will run from 4-20 February 2022, featuring approximately 2,900 athletes from around the world, competing across 7 sports, 15 disciplines in 109 medal
