New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has won the Northland by-election.
He comfortably won the election with almost 54 percent of the vote.
National Party candidate, Mark Osborne was in second place but was more than 4000 votes behind Peters.
The result is a devastating for the National Party. They have held the seat for nearly 20 years and won it with a majority of more than 9000 votes at the last general election.
The sitting MP, Mike Sabin, resigned for personal reasons in January 2015.
