You might have heard about Afghanistan in the news lately.
Afghanistan is a country in South Central Asia. Over the last 20 years it has been involved in alot of wars and fighting.
Last week Afghanistan’s government has collapsed and a military group called the Taliban have taken control of the capital city of Kabul.
The Taliban are a military group that have been fighting for power in the country.
Lots of people are concerned about what Taliban leadership will mean for people in Afghanistan.
What is the Taliban?
The Taliban is an extreme Islamic group, which ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.
They are followers of Islam. However, their their beliefs are much more extreme than those of the majority of Muslims.
They have been fighting to take back control of Afghanistan and want to enforce their own strict version of the Sharia, or Islamic law.
When the Taliban leaders were last in control of Afghanistan, they banned many things, including education for girls, television, music and cinema.
Men were made to grow beards and women had to wear burkas, which is a one-piece veil that covers the face and body.
What has been done?
For most of the last 20 years, the US have supported the government in Afghanistan.
But US president Joe Biden announced in April 2021 that all American forces would leave the country by 11 September.
Over the past few months ago the Taliban had began gaining control of areas around Afghanistan.
