Snow is already falling on Happy Valley.
It’s flying straight out of a pipe into pure white mounds on the volcanic rock of the Whakapapa ski area on Mt Ruapehu.
The new snow factory is only one of ten state-of-the-art machines in the world.
The $1.5 million German-made snow factory can make snow in all weather conditions whereas a standard snow maker needs a temperature of at least minus two degrees.
It can produce 220 cubic metres in 24 hours. That will be enough to start burying your average sized house.
Because of it, Happy Valley is guaranteed to be open a month earlier than usual, on June 3.

  1. WOW!!! That’s so cool! If only there was one in Auckland though… But thinking of the consequences, how long would it take to save up $1.5 Million?!
