The Wellington Phoenix have missed out on the 2021 A-League playoffs.

The Wellington Phoenix needed results to go their way before their final game of the season.

However, with Adelaide United drawing their final game, they secured the final spot.

However, the Phoenix didn’t let that stop them from producing an excellent final display – beating Macarthur FC 3-0. The result means that they went unbeaten in their final 11 games of the season.

Wellington Phoenix head coach Ufuk Talay says that the up and down season cost his side. The Phoenix picked up 15 points from their first 15 games but banked 23 from their final 11.

One of the key reasons for the return to form was the mid-season return of former captain Steven Taylor and the prolific form of striker Tomer Hemed.
