The Wellington Phoenix have been knocked out of the A-League season.

The Phoenix were beaten 1-0 by Perth Glory in the first elimination final in Sydney.

Joel Chianese’s goal after 18 minutes put Perth ahead, while their keeper Liam Reddy kept the Phoenix attack at bay.

The Phoenix were the dominate team but spurned a series of late chances and fell short of a first post-season win since 2012.

A lack of goals had been a problem for the Wellington team, especially since the return following COVID-19.

The Glory’s win means they will tackle premiers Sydney FC in the semi-finals on Wednesday in a grand-final rematch.
