Waka ama champs in Rotorua

More than 1950 students from 123 schools are currently in Rotorua competing in the 2019 National Secondary School Waka Ama Championships.

Now in their 18th year, the championships are being held from Tuesday to Friday at Rotorua’s Tikitapu (Blue Lake).

The event is part of New Zealand Secondary Schools Summer tournament Week.

Thousands of students are competing in summer sporting codes across the country.

Around 2200 rowers, along with their support crews and coaches are in
 Lake Karāpiro for the Maadi Cup.
