9 year old, Ben Pierce, has created a ‘Vision Wish List’ – a list of things he wants to see before he goes blind.
The young boy from Texas will soon lose his sight forever through a condition known as retinopathy of prematurity. Ben was diagnosed with the condition after he was born prematurely at only 23 weeks.
For years Ben’s sight has been deteriorating and the 9 year old was classified as legally blind last autumn. He still has some of his vision and wants to see all that he can before he loses the last of his sight.
Ben’s Vision Wish List includes the Redwood Forest in Northern California, Las Vegas, the Parthenon in Greece, The Great Wall of China, Death Valley, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Mount Rushmore, Japan, as well as snorkelling and skiing.
Ben has ticked off around 40 of his wishes from his list so far, already making it to the Northern Lights in Alaska and the Statue of Liberty.
Although Ben will soon be unable to see anything, completing this list will mean that Ben will have seen a lot more of the world in his short 9 years than other people will experience in their whole lives.
