The Scott Base hut built by Sir Edmund Hillary is about to open its doors. Well, kind of!

The Scott Base has become available to the public of New Zealand – and you won’t need to set foot in Antarctica.

A virtual reality experience of Scott Base’s oldest building has been developed by the Antarctic Heritage Trust along with the AUT.

The virtual site provides insight into how Sir Ed and his team lived and worked in the extreme elements more than 60 years ago.

People can experience Hillary’s Hut free through the trust’s VR app, or download it free from Steam for the fully immersive and interactive version.
