America has voted in the 2018 mid-term elections.

At this stage, the Democratic party has taken the House of Representatives, but Republicans have held onto the Senate.

These are important elections as it enables people to signal to the current President how well he is doing.

Every four years, people in the US vote to elect their president. This is known as a ‘term’.

Therefore, the mid-term elections happen halfway through a president’s term in office.

During the mid-terms American people vote for politicians in a part of the government called Congress, which makes laws.

There are also governor positions, and state and local office positions up for grabs.
