Tweet sold for close to $4million

The first ever tweet sent has been sold for the equivalent of around $4 million NZ dollars.

The tweet was posted by the founder of twitter Jack Dorsey 15 years ago on March 21, 2006.

The tweet says: “just setting up my twttr”.

It has now been sold for charity and was bought by Malaysian-businessman Sina Estavi.

The tweet is seen as valuable because of its cultural and historical significance. It was bought using the cryptocurrency called Ethereum.

Cryptocurrency can be described as virtual or digital cash, or simply, online money.

As the buyer, Sina Estavi will receive a certificate, digitally signed and verified by Mr Dorsey, as well as the metadata of the original tweet. This will include information such as the time the tweet was posted and what it says.
