Tom Walsh has won a bronze medal in the Olympic shot put final.

It is the second bronze he has won in this discipline, following the same result in Rio 2016.

Walsh’s best throw was 22.47m. This was 83cm behind winner American Ryan Crouser who threw and Olympic record of 23.30 metres.

Another American Joe Kovacs won silver with 22.65 metres.

Interstingly, this was the same result from Rio five years ago.

New Zealand’s other competitor in the final Jacko Gill finished ninth.
