On Tuesday 43-year-old Lucy Knight was punched in the head by a teenage attacker, after she tried to stop an older woman from being mugged outside an Auckland supermarket. In the attack Mrs Knight suffered life threatening injures including a fractured skull and bleeding of the brain, which required immediate brain survey.
A Family friend of Mrs Knight, set up an online Givealittle campaign to raise funds for the cost of her treatment. Since the beginning of the campaign more than $24,000 has been raised by members of the public, which is twice the initial goal set.  While the family is obviously shocked and upset by the accident, they are very grateful for the donations which they say will be a substantial help in ensuring Knight makes a full recovery.
The youth who committed the attack will appear in court charged with aggravated wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault with intent to rob.
