Team New Zealand has officially unveiled its new yacht in Auckland.
The new yacht is called Te Aihe, which they will use to defend America’s Cup in 2021. The name Maori name Te Aihe, translates to ‘The Dolphin’.
The new boat is an AC75 foiling monohull and was on full display at a ceremony at the Auckland base.
After the ceremony, the boat was then placed in the water for the first time. Team New Zealand will start sailing around Auckland harbour in the coming months.
Many fans, including Prime Minister Jacinda Adern, were in attendance.
The 23m long boat will hold 11 crew members, and is expected to be faster than the catamarans used in Bermuda in 2017.
