The Tall Blacks will not be representing New Zealand at the 2021 Olympics.

Last week NZ Basketball New Zealand announced they had withdrawn the Tall Blacks and the men’s 3X3 team from the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Serbia and Austria.

A rise in tournament costs caused by quarantine protocols has made the process to expensive.

To qualify the teams would have had to have a number of qualifiers for World Cups, Olympic Games and Asia Cups.

Basketball New Zealand Chief Executive, Iain Potter, said earlier this month that these sacrifices would have been avoided if it wasn’t for the Covid-19 pandemic.
