Cowabunga, surf’s up dogs!

Dozens of dogs have hit the waves over the weekend at the annual Surf City Surf Dog competition in California.

The event, which is in its ninth year, brought 40 dogs and their owners from across Southern California to catch waves and raise money for charity.

Dogs clad in everything from fun sunglasses to cool collars rode one- to 3-foot waves.

Sugar the surfing dog, a native of Huntington Beach, beat more than 40 other canine competitors.

Sugar is a rescue dog whose owner, Ryan Rustan, adopted her after the pup’s hard life on the streets of Oakland.

Sugar has never placed lower than second in any competition she’s entered and has 15 trophies.
