New Zealand’s surf lifesavers begin their summer patrols over this Labour Weekend.
Some of New Zealand’s more popular northern beaches like Piha and Muriwai will be marshaled this weekend.
The patrols will then continue every weekend throughout summer until Easter next year.
There are 73 surf lifesaving clubs in New Zealand. In the summer of 2010 volunteers performed over 100,000 preventative actions during 155,000 hours of beach patrols.
The MetService is predicting a “typical” Labour Weekend with an active front bringing sun, wind and rain.
