A scientific study has found that dual-flush toilets ‘wasting more water than they save’.

A study by Thames Water in the UK says the design, which aims to save water design is more likely to leak.

The study found that in the United Kingdom around 400m litres are being lost from toilets a day.

Dual-flush toilets were introduced around the world as a way of saving water. In some places they were expected to use less than half the amount of water per flush, are more prone to leaks.

The study showed that a single leaking toilet wastes an average of between between 215 and 400 litres of water per day and that between 5% and 8% of all toilets are leaky.
