New Zealand musician Stan Walker has released a new single at the start of Māori Language Week.

‘Aotearoa’ is sung in Te Reo Māori. However, the song is for anyone who calls this country home.

Walker teamed up with Ria Hall,  Maisey Rika, and Troy Kingi to sing the song which was released earlier today.

Walker hopes to make it a hit, spreading the language as well as the music.

“It’s not just for people in New Zealand, but people from New Zealand who have moved all around the world that can connect to this song, to connect them back home. Hopefully it will encourage them to learn a bit more Te Reo.”

This year’s Maori Language Week has the theme – Te Kupa o te Wiki: The Word of the Week.
Maori became an official language of New Zealand in 1987, alongside English.
