According to the United Nations South Sudan is on the brink of mass starvation.

More than a third of South Sudan’s population is without adequate food or water.

South Sudan is the newest country in the world, gaining independence from Sudan in 2011.

However, civil war broke out in last year. This was started by the president who accused his deputy leader of trying to take power. this caused the army to divide into two waring sides.

The country is now on the brink of famine with around 7 million people at risk of hunger. This includes  around 223,000 children facing severe malnutrition.

In addition to the starvation the people of South Sudan are facing, international aid agency, Oxfam, says that the country is also facing a cholera outbreak.

The United States and United Kingdom have pledged more than £360m to help combat the crisis.

  1. This is terrible. We already have so many countries starving in the world and south sudan has just been added to the list. Too know it is the newest country in the world and already has war and already on the brink of starvation is terrible. I don’t know how anyone could live like this, we are all use too having a heap of food and yet too them a little bit might seem like a lot.
I hope this starvation gets better and I hope there might be a way to stop this war.

  2. that is what happening on most places in Africa…. It’s so sad… I want to give them some food and water.
