'Snark' wins children's book award

Dunedin author and illustrator David Elliot has won the top prize at this year New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.
Elliot’s book Snark is based around two Lewis Carroll poems. It has been named the Margaret Mahy Book of the Year.
Elliot turned Carroll’s poems Jabberwocky and The Hunting of the Snark into a pictorial expedition diary.
It impressed the judges for its clear wit, outstanding illustrations and twists on the original material.
Elliot received prize money totalling $15,000.
