Travellers flying into Wellington Airport are now welcomed by a giant sculpture of the well-known Hobbit character, Smaug the Magnificient. The massive sculpture was revealed in front of 200 hobbit fans that have made their way across the world for the global Hobbit Fan Fellowship competition.
Weta Workshop cleverly constructed the dragon display over a course of four months with the massive structure requiring a huge laboring team of 40 people to create the 14 separate parts. With piecing yellow eyes that blink at those who pass by and smoke being exhaled from its huge nostrils, the dragon is surely a sight not to be missed.
