A small porcelain cup has fetched $40million at an auction in Hong Kong.

The cup dates back to the Ming Dynasty and sets a new world record  for Chinese porcelain.

Sotheby’s Nicholas Chow holds a “Chicken Cup” which sold for a record price.

The small item is known as the “chicken cup”  because it is decorated with a rooster and hen tending to their chicks.

The cup is 500 years old and was bought by a Shanghai collector.

Only 17 such cups exist, and this is the only one in  China.

The cup will be displayed at Liu’s Long Museum in Shanghai.
