A snake has been found in a car in Te Anau, near the Fiordland National Park.
A man had arrived at the Te Anau police station on Sunday afternoon to ask for help after spotting the Australian import in his ute.
It was still alive and police managed to secure it in the car.
The car had recently been imported from Australia about three months ago, police confirmed.
It’s believed to be a non-toxic Australia tree snake.
Snakes are common in Australia, there are no snakes in New Zealand and it’s illegal to deliberately import one or keep one captive. None of New Zealand’s zoos or research facilities contain snakes as a result.

  1. Nz is gonna have dangerous wildlife very soon thanks to people from other country’s. I’ve been to AUS and there sloppy and aren’t hard working

  2. WOW how did the snake even got in the car? Well if the doors of the car are opened, the person who owned the car should really close the door. Many spiders or worms could get in.

  3. I find it sad that they are going to terminate the snake humanely. However I find in quit inconspicuous as to how the snake made it here alive!

  4. I hope the snake is not killed!! People have to respect wildlife! The police should let the snake in the wilderness.
